Wolf's Bard: Progress!
Published on March 9th, 2011 @ 11:11:36 pm , using 124 words, 986 views
Approximately 6 years ago, I started writing a story. It’s turned into the Fantasy/Thriller novel Wolf’s Bard. I’ve been writing and re-writing it ever since. This time though, after starting all over once more, I’m 43% done. I’m really happy with it this time. I’m also releasing my first chapter for those of you interested in reading it. It’s a bit unusual, because it takes place in B.C. Britain.
Here’s the link to my first chapter.

Tiwyr: POV, hero, outlaw warrior

Og: Arch Villain

Lurff: Reckless Scalawag, one of Tiwyr’s buddies
For those of you who think that Lurff’s spiky hair isn’t very ancient and is WAY too modern, allow me to inform you that certain northern men wore their hair spiked up in B.C. Europe.

Nice!

I was trying to find a picture of the old European artifact that showed spiky hair, but I couldn't re-locate it. Yurgh. Someday, someday...

6 years, eh? Wow. I've been writing for 8 years (since I was eight, myself) but only got serious about writing four years ago.
Wow, you're sure coming along! 43% done! You've been busy, looks like.
Um, yeah, I'd better get back to writing too!
Best,
D. S. Dahnim
You've been persevering for a long time, then! Amazing! What do you write about?
Yeah, I've been told that there's some lingo in there to master. Hmm... Yep, I did draw the pictures. Since this project has spanned so many years for me, most of those pictures aren't new.
Good writing to you!

Well, it's not really been too long since I actually got *serious* about writing, only since I was twelve. How old were you when you started writing?
I write mostly fantasy, set in a different land and with a couple fantastical elements, though without any magic. I'm working on a ten book fantasy series, one of which I'm finished writing. I've got a few other projects, including half of a novel (maybe fantasy too, but with muskets) that just appeared on the last day of October and demanded to be written for NaNoWriMo
Happy Writing!
Best,
D. S. Dahnim
That's kewlbeanz that you're doing fantasy, too! A ten-book series! (wow-o!)
Muskets. Ooh.
~Adele
What's it about? Depends on the one
Hm, that wasn't very specific, was it? I've worked on summarizing each of the books themselves, but I haven't tried to summarize the series as a whole before . . . guess I should work on that
So much for "as few words as possible" . . .
How would you summarize your book in one sentence? Or your series (it's part of one, right?)
Best,
D. S. Dahnim
That's really fascinating about your series. It sounds a bit like different pieces in a series of legends that a bard would tell. A long saga of inter-related parts. It reminds me in over-arching theme yet different sections of the Hervarar Saga, which is like a long story with separate parts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hervarar_saga_ok_Hei%C3%B0reks Pretty interesting and used by Tolkien!
My book is a stand-alone one. I might do a book later on Robin Hood, if not, this will be my only book. Wolf's Bard and the Robin Hood one would be related in theme but nothing else. Bit vague aren't I? How would I describe Wolf's Bard... Hmm. An outlaw warrior fights overwhelming odds to save a young bard, and in so doing, saves his world.
Good writing to you! I'd love to see some of your work!

I went and looked at the link--very interesting! Interesting that Tolkien used some stuff from it. I'm a big Tolkien fan, so it's always fun to see things like that. Yeah, my series is kind of like that, and yet in another way is very different. It looks like the Hervarar Saga spans several generations, whereas my series only spans about twenty years or less, with the first one fourteen years before the next one, which is grouped together with all the rest over four or five years. So only one or possibly two generations.
Oh, I was under the impression that Wolf's Bard was part of a series, probably because on the side of your site here, under categories there's 1: Wolf's Bard and 4: Silverwood. But going to that second category, there's nothing there. Of course, when I started writing my first book, I thought it would be a stand-alone book, but I was wrong, and I now have nine others to go with it. So you never know
Good description of Wolf's Bard. I take it the outlaw warrior would be Tiwyr, though he's not an outlaw as of the end of the first chapter
I have a summary of each of my books, but I'm thinking there's too many to put here . . .
If you'd really like to see something of mine, I could maybe send you the first chapter of my completed (except for possible edits/re-writes) book. But only if you'd really want it. It's five pages, short compared to your twelve, and does not start out with nearly as much action as yours
Good writing to you, too! I see you've been upping your word-count
Best,
D. S. Dahnim
That is awesome that you figured out a whole series for yours! I guess I'm not that creative! (Two books= easier for my brain) It sounds like a fascinating story, being multi-generational even if not to the extant of Hervarar Saga! bwahaha And yeah, Tolkien rocks. High five on that.
In the parts succeeding Chapter 1 & 2 which are available here, Tiwyr will have to face a terrible choice which ends in his exile. Then he'll meet the bard and make yet another decision. Poor guy has a lot of stuff thrown at him!
I better get back to upping that word count! lol I sent you an email so you can send me that first chapter, I really do want to see it!
~Adele
I guess sort of multi-generational, if you count the first book being sort of the story of the parents of some of the teens (mostly teens) who are the heroes of the other nine books. So yes, in that way I suppose, but I hadn't thought of it like that before . . .
Aww, poor Tiwyr!
Wow, upping the word-count is right! 53% done! Go you!
Best,
D. S. Dahnim
I started a few years back and took a wee break (between raising kids and life). Now I'm determined to finish and get started on the next one, Flier of Arianas.
